Instructions are given for 32 in or 81 cm size, larger sizes in square brackets. Where only one figure is given this applies to all sizes.

 

TENSION

22 sts and 30 rows to 4 in or 10 cm measured over patt on size 4 mm needles or the size of needles to give correct tension. It is important to check your tension before beginning the garment. If there are less sts or rows to 4 in or 10 cm than stated, change to smaller needles. If there are more sts or rows to 4 in or 10 cm than stated, change to larger needles.

Dec. 1 st at each end of next 1 [ 5 : 9 : 9 : 11 : 13 : 17 ] rows then on every foll alt row until 73 [ 73 : 73 : 79 : 79 : 79 : 79 ] sts rem. **

Work straight until armholes measure

7 [ 8 : 8 : 8 : 9 : 9 : 10 ] in or 19 [ 20 : 21 : 22 : 23 : 24 : 25 ] cm ending with a wrong side row.

 

Shape Back Neck

Next Row: Patt 21 [ 21 : 21 : 23 : 23 : 23 : 23 ], turn.

*** Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 3 rows thus ending with a wrong side row. = 18 [ 18 : 18 : 20 : 20 : 20 : 20 ] sts.

(When working second side, work 1 more row at this point, thus ending with a right side row).

 

Shape Shoulder

Cast off 9 [ 9 : 9 : 10 : 10 : 10 : 10 ] sts at beg of next row. Work 1 row. Cast off rem 9 [ 9 : 9 : 10 : 10 : 10 : 10 ] sts.

Sl centre 31 [ 31 : 31 : 33 : 33 : 33 : 33 ] sts onto a st holder.

With right side facing rejoin yarn to rem 21 [ 21 : 21 : 23 : 23 : 23 : 23 ] sts and patt to end.

Complete second side to match with first side from *** noting variation.

 

FRONT

Work exactly as given for Back to **.

Work 1 [ 3 : 3 : 7 : 7 : 9 : 9 ] rows straight thus ending with a wrong side row.

 

Shape Neck

Next Row: Patt 30 [ 30 : 30 : 33 : 33 : 33 : 33 ], turn.

**** Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 4 [ 4 : 4 : 6 : 6 : 6 : 6 ] rows, then on every foll alt row until 21 [ 21 : 21 : 23 : 23 : 23 : 23 ] sts rem, then on every foll 4th row until 18 [ 18 : 18 : 20 : 20 : 20 : 20 ] sts rem.

Work straight until Front matches Back to start of shoulder shaping ending with a wrong side row.

(When working second side work 1 more row at this point thus ending with a right side row).

 

Shape Shoulder

Cast off 9 [ 9 : 9 : 10 : 10 : 10 : 10 ] sts at beg of next row. Work 1 row.

Cast off rem 9 [ 9 : 9 : 10 : 10 : 10 : 10 ] sts.

Sl centre 13 sts onto a st holder.

With right side facing rejoin yarn to rem 30 [ 30 : 30 : 33 : 33 : 33 : 33 ] sts and patt to end.

Complete second side to match with first side from **** noting variation.

 

NECKBAND

With a backstitch join right shoulder seam

Using 3 mm needles and with right side facing rejoin yarn and pick up and K36 sts evenly down left side of front neck, K13 sts from centre front, then pick up and K36 sts evenly up right side of front neck, 4 sts down right side of back neck, K31 [ 31 : 31 : 33 : 33 : 33 : 33 ] sts from back dec 1 st at centre, then pick up and K 4 sts up left side of back neck. = 123 [ 123 : 123 : 125 : 125 : 125 : 125 ] sts.

1st Row: P1, *K1, P1, rep from * to end.

2nd Row: K1, *P1, K1, rep from * to end.

Rep these 2 rows twice more then first of these 2 rows again. Cast off evenly in rib.

 

ARMHOLE BANDS

With a backstitch join left shoulder seam and Neckband.

Using 3 mm needles and with right side facing rejoin yarn and pick up and K99 [ 105 : 111 : 117 : 123 : 129 : 135 ] sts evenly along armhole edge.

Work 7 rows in rib as given for Neckband. Cast off evenly in rib.

 

TO MAKE UP

See ball band for care instructions.

 

With a backstitch join left shoulder and neckband seams. Join side and armhole band seams.

 

To Set Knitting

Pin out to size and shape, cover with a damp cloth and allow to dry.
